Sydney Sweeney Hilariously Roasts Glasgow’s ‘Wonka Experience’ in ‘SNL’ Skit

Sydney Sweeney recently took a light-hearted jab at the much-criticized Wonka-themed chocolate “experience” that made headlines in Glasgow last week. The Willy’s Chocolate Experience gained attention on social media when pictures surfaced of an empty warehouse minimally adorned with plastic mushrooms and pictures on the walls.

Promising a “celebration of sweetness and imagination” inspired by the movie Wonka and the Roald Dahl book, the event faced backlash from disappointed parents who considered it a “farce” run by “cowboys.” The organizers, House of Illuminati, decided to cancel the event just hours into its opening day.

During her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live (SNL) last weekend, Sweeney participated in various skits, including one where she humorously referenced the failed Willy’s Chocolate Experience. In the ‘Airbnb Design Commercial,’ Sweeney, along with cast member Chloe Troast, portrayed designers for Airbnbs, humorously claiming credit for several “bland, generic, downright uninviting” interiors. They cheekily mentioned their work on the Wonka Experience in Glasgow, showcasing images from the unsuccessful event.

Following the Glasgow debacle, an actor hired for the Willy’s Chocolate Experience spoke out about the event’s problematic nature. Paul Connell, who impersonated Willy Wonka, described the experience as “dangerous” and “heartbreaking.”

He revealed that the script was 15 pages of AI-generated gibberish, including bizarre monologues. Connell mentioned a particularly strange part where he had to talk about an unknown man living in the walls as an evil chocolate maker.

Connell also highlighted the absurdity of the situation, revealing that despite the chocolate-themed event, they were instructed to give attendees only one jelly bean and a quarter cup of lemonade. The promised chocolate fountain was nowhere to be seen.
