Sydney Sweeney’s Stellar Performance in ‘Immaculate’ Breaks Box Office Records

Renowned for its skill in producing films on a modest budget, NEON has proven itself by producing critically acclaimed films such as ‘Parasite’ (2019), ‘Triangle of Sadness’ (2021) and the most recent winner of the Best Original Screenplay award, ‘Anatomy of a Fall.’ Before ‘Immaculate’ became popular, Michael Mann’s ‘Ferrari’ broke the record for the highest opening weekend gross at NEON, earning over $3.9 million during its Christmas 2023 release. 

But Sydney Sweeney’s horror film ‘Immaculate’ exceeded all expectations with an opening-day gross of over $5 million, setting a new record as the highest-grossing NEON opening day ever.

In its domestic premiere, ‘Immaculate’ earned roughly $5.36 million from 2,354 theatres, according to BoxOfficeReport. The movie, which had a modest $9 million budget, has already recovered half of its production costs, suggesting that it could end up being this year’s biggest independent hit.

‘Immaculate’ shows promising financial prospects, even though it came in fourth place on the box office charts behind blockbusters like ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ ($45.2 million) and the ongoing success of ‘Dune: Part 2’ (which has crossed $240 million domestically).

‘Immaculate’ received mixed reviews; on Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 73% positive rating with an average score of 6.4/10. Sydney Sweeney co-stars in the Michael Mohan-directed and Andrew Lobel-written movie with Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli, and Simona Tabasco.

The story centres on Cecilia, a pious woman who quickly accepts a prominent position at an Italian convent, only to have her faith put to the test by sinister secrets that lie within its walls.
