SZA took the top slot at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on Sunday night (June 30), delivering a performance that was both triumphant and troubled by technical difficulties. For the first 30 minutes, SZA’s mic was muffled and muddy, making her nearly inaudible. Though her voice did become clearer and louder after this initial struggle, it occasionally slipped back into a muddy quality, causing frustration for fans both at the festival and watching online.
Adding to the drama, social media was abuzz with comments about the size of her audience. Many noticed that the crowd for SZA was smaller than those of her fellow headliners, Coldplay and Dua Lipa. One person even commented, “That SZA crowd is one of the lowest I’ve ever seen for a Pyramid Headliner. Wow.”

SZA has now seemingly responded to the divisive commentary on social media. Taking to X/Twitter, the singer wrote, “The bravery required to be alive in public is remarkable. S/o everybody doing that shit.” This message seems to address not just her performance but the vulnerability of being a public figure.
Despite the mixed reception, SZA’s set had its highlights. “This is for my day ones only,” SZA exclaims as she introduces closer ‘20 Something’ to screams from the front section of the crowd.
