‘The Featherweight’ Poster Unveiled: A Total Knockout
Collider exclusively revealed the official poster for ‘The Featherweight’, an upcoming biographical drama that delves into the later years of boxing legend Willie Pep. Directed by Robert Kolodny, who makes his feature directorial debut with this film, ‘The Featherweight’ promises a gritty and intimate look at Pep’s life as he attempts a troubled comeback.
The film, set to premiere in select theatres this September, focuses on Willie Pep, born Guglielmo Papaleo in 1922, a boxer known as “The Will o’ the Wisp.” Pep, who amassed an impressive record of 229 wins, including 65 knockouts, dominated the featherweight division. However, his later years were marked by personal challenges and a faltering career, themes the film captures with emotional depth.

The newly unveiled poster is a powerful visual representation of Pep’s life in the film’s 1964 setting. It features a compelling collage with a colour scheme reflecting the raw and gritty nature of the era. The images include Pep in the ring, his much younger wife (played by Ruby Wolf), his estranged son (Keir Gilchrist), as well as significant figures like his manager Bob Kaplan (Ron Livingston) and trainer Bill Gore (Stephen Lang).
The tagline, “Willie Pep Has Had 231 Fights. What’s One More?” captures the film’s poignant tone, highlighting Pep’s enduring spirit against the backdrop of his physical decline.

The movie portrays Pep’s struggle with his tumultuous personal life, including his relationship with his young wife and his troubled, drug-addicted son, while he gears up for a risky comeback. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Shari Albert, Imma Aiello, and professional boxer Bruce Carrington, with Lawrence Gilliard Jr. as Pep’s formidable rival Sandy Saddler.
‘The Featherweight’ is set to be more than just a biopic; it explores the human spirit, the price of fame, and the inevitable passage of time.
