What is 'The Legend of Zelda' About?

'The Legend of Zelda' franchise, created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, follows the adventures of the heroic Link as he battles against dark forces—most notably the evil sorcerer Ganon—to save Princess Zelda and protect the mystical kingdom of Hyrule. Central to the story is the Triforce, a powerful relic embodying courage, wisdom, and power.

The film adaptation will mark a major milestone for the iconic video game series, which began in 1986 and has since grown into one of Nintendo’s most beloved and enduring franchises. Over the past four decades, 'The Legend of Zelda' has released more than 20 mainline games and several spin-offs, with recent titles including 'Tears of the Kingdom' (2023) and 'Echoes of Wisdom' (2024).

While each game exists within a unique timeline, they share recurring themes of heroism, sacrifice, and the timeless battle between good and evil. At the heart of the story is the recurring trio of characters: Link, Zelda, and Ganon, who are reborn across generations to continue the saga.

Fans had long speculated about who would take on the roles of Link and Zelda. Popular fan suggestions included 'Euphoria' star Hunter Schafer, who expressed interest in the part when asked in late 2023, and musician-actor Machine Gun Kelly, who made it known that he was eager to play Link.

With casting now confirmed and a 2027 release date on the horizon, excitement is building for what promises to be a high-fantasy epic rooted in one of gaming’s most legendary sagas.
