‘The Matrix’ Fans Express Discontent Over New Sequel, Threatening to Boycott

After learning that the series’ creators, Lana and Lily Wachowski, will not be directing the upcoming fifth instalment, fans of ‘The Matrix’ franchise have voiced their reluctance to watch.

Drew Goddard, best known for his work on ‘The Martian,’ is slated to direct a new film, Warner Bros. recently confirmed. Lana is involved as an executive producer, but this is the first movie in the series that isn’t directed by the Wachowski sisters.

On social media, disappointed fans voiced their displeasure. One wrote, “If it aint Wachowski, I will not watchski,” and another said it’s “deeply sacrilegious” to have a Matrix movie without the Wachowskis.

Still, some Goddard fans recognized the value of new viewpoints, and others stressed the significance of Lana and Lilly’s imaginative contributions to the script. The plot is still unknown, but Jesse Ehrman, president of production at Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, made hints about the story’s potential to expand into the well-known fantasy universe.

The Wachowski brothers created the Matrix franchise, which made its premiere in 1999 with a ground-breaking science fiction movie. There were more sequels, the most recent of which was ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ in 2021.

Whether Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss—as well as other stars from ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ like Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas—will return to their roles is still up in the air.
