‘The Movie Critic’ Dropped as Quentin Tarantino’s Last Movie

Quentin Tarantino has apparently made a change in his final film plans, opting to drop ‘The Movie Critic,’ according to a report from Deadline Hollywood. Sources, whose identities remain undisclosed, have claimed that the acclaimed filmmaker has had a change of heart about proceeding with ‘The Movie Critic.’

Rumours were circulating about Tarantino possibly reworking the script, and production on the film had faced delays due to last year’s strikes involving writers and actors. Instead, Tarantino is said to be shifting his focus to an entirely new project for his tenth and final film. However, Tarantino himself has not confirmed the alleged cancellation of ‘The Movie Critic.’

‘The Movie Critic’ had Brad Pitt attached as its lead actor, with speculation suggesting that other actors who have previously collaborated with Tarantino might also have roles in the film. Tarantino had previously disclosed that the movie centres around a real-life film journalist known for writing for a “p*rno rag,” a publication he frequently read during his formative years.

Describing the character, Tarantino mentioned, “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic… His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic.”

The report from Deadline arrives shortly after a listing in Production Weekly earlier this month hinted that filming for ‘The Movie Critic’ would commence in autumn this year. Tarantino’s decision to retire from filmmaking has sparked various reactions within the film industry.

Director Christopher Nolan has described it as “very purist,” highlighting the addictive nature of storytelling in cinema and expressing difficulty in imagining voluntarily stopping such creative work.
