The 2023 Emmys Awards witnessed a buzz-worthy moment as the mysterious Green Goblin took centre stage on the awards night. In a departure from the glamorous attire of her fellow cast members, reality TV star Princess Poppy opted for a head-to-toe green ensemble that left viewers both awestruck and puzzled.
Princess Poppy, known for her role on ‘RuPaul's Drag Race’, brought a touch of the unexpected to the red carpet, incorporating references to Jabba the Hutt, Roz from Monsters, Inc., and a witch from the 1985 Tom Cruise film ‘Legend’ into her unconventional outfit.

Explaining her bold choice, Poppy shared on the red carpet, "I wanted to defy expectations for an event like this. I aimed to challenge convention and be a complete contrast. I aimed to embody a troll-meets-hag persona, intending to be so startling that turning heads was inevitable – even if in the most unconventional way possible."
While Princess Poppy's bold ensemble may have seemed extravagant, it perfectly complemented the continued dominance of ‘Drag Race’ in the realm of reality television at the Emmy Awards. The enduring series secured the title of outstanding reality competition program.

During the acceptance speech, the show's host, RuPaul, seized the moment to advocate for action, stating, "If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power. If someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you. So listen to a drag queen!"
‘RuPaul's Drag Race’, which premiered in 2009, has not only won acclaim but has also spawned spin-offs like ‘RuPaul's Drag U’, ‘RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars’, ‘RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked’, and ‘RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race’. The franchise has expanded its influence to Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K., attracting celebrity guest judges such as Leslie Jones, Lizzo, Leah Remini, Lady Gaga, and Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams.
It's worth noting that RuPaul holds the distinction of being the most decorated Black artist in the history of the Emmys.
