‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’: Release Date, Updates & Latest News

A sequel is formally in the works after the huge success of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which went on to become one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time.

 In the 2023 movie, Chris Pratt played Nintendo’s most adored video game character, Anya Taylor-Joy played Princess Peach, Charlie Day played Luigi, and Jack Black played Bowser.  Nintendo, Universal Pictures, and Illumination—the studio behind the ‘Despicable Me’ series—all worked together on the film.

 The news of a sequel was formally revealed on March 2024, during Mario Day festivities.

On 3rd April 2026, the sequel is expected to open in theatres across the United States.  On the same day, it will also be published in other nations, however, the precise locations have not yet been determined.  A few weeks later, on April 2026, the movie will get its Japanese premiere.

 The original film’s directors, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are returning to direct the movie, albeit there are currently few specifics available.  Along with author Matthew Fogel, producers Chris Meledandri from Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo are also returning.

According to Miyamoto, the sequel will include a vibrant and thrilling plot that broadens Mario’s realm.  Yoshi’s entrance was hinted at in the previous movie’s ending, indicating that the beloved dinosaur will be featured prominently in the sequel.

 The majority of the original voice actors, including Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Seth Rogen, are anticipated to return to their roles, despite the fact that the official cast list has not yet been revealed.
