One of the most unforgettable moments of the 83rd Golden Globe Awards was when Timothée Chalamet won his first-ever Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy for his role in 'Marty Supreme.' The night was historic not only because Chalamet finally secured the trophy after several nominations, but also because he beat Hollywood heavyweights like Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, Lee Byung-hun, and Jesse Plemons in a stacked category.

In an emotional victory, Chalamet used his acceptance speech to consider his journey, honour the outstanding cast of the movie, and express his sincere gratitude to his partner, Kylie Jenner, making the occasion both profoundly personal and career-defining.

A Breakthrough Win and Marty Supreme's Rise

One of the most talked-about performances of the awards season was concluded by Timothée Chalamet's Golden Globe win for 'Marty Supreme.' Josh Safdie's film, which is partially inspired on the life and spirit of ping pong legend Marty Reisman, features Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a motivated competitor whose combination of vulnerability and intensity won him widespread accolades from critics.

Chalamet's portrayal marked a new peak in his career, combining physical transformation with emotional depth in a way that resonated strongly with audiences and critics alike.

Chalamet had previously received five Golden Globe nominations for roles in movies such as 'A Complete Unknown,' 'Wonka,' 'Beautiful Boy,' and 'Call Me By Your Name,' but his victory this year ended that run. This victory also followed his recent Best Actor win at the Critics Choice Awards, adding momentum to his awards season campaign and strengthening Marty Supreme's profile for future races.

An Emotional Acceptance Speech and A Nod to Kylie Jenner

An emotional Chalamet took a moment on stage at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the individuals that helped him personally and influenced the course of the movie. He began by recognizing the competition and collaborators: "I'm in a category with many greats; this category is stacked. I look up to all of you, thank you," before thanking Marty Supreme's director and creative team: "To Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role, thank you for believing in me."

He also lightened the room with a humorous shout-out to newcomer Kevin O'Leary: "If you would have told me when I was 19 years old I'd be thanking Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank…I would've been stunned, but I'm very grateful." Reflecting on his career path, Chalamet credited his upbringing: "My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up…It's allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past empty-handed, my head held high, grateful to just be here, but I'd be lying if I didn't say those moments made this moment that much sweeter."

He closed the speech with a direct and tender tribute to family and love: "For my parents, for my partner, I love you. Thank you so much," visibly moving both the audience and his partner sitting front and center. As Kylie Jenner celebrated Chalamet's victory, the cameras captured her smiling, sobbing teary-eyed, and even mouthing "I love you" back to him. Their affectionate exchange before and after the speech—including a kiss captured when his name was announced—added a personal highlight to a night already full of joy and celebration.
