Earlier this year, Prime Video and Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced a new 'Tomb Raider' series for the small screen. The iconic video game, first released in 1996 for PC, PlayStation and Sega Saturn, quickly evolved into a global franchise. Beyond games, it spawned comics, novels, action figures, and movies, with Angelina Jolie portraying the legendary Lara Croft in the 2001 film adaptation, and Alicia Vikander taking on the role in the 2018 reboot.
In a recent interview with The Wrap, Vernon Sanders, Amazon's Head of Television, discussed the upcoming Lara Croft series. He praised Waller-Bridge's work and shared that they are still searching for the perfect actress to play Lara Croft.

Sanders mentioned, "We are hard at work. We've got great material. Phoebe is really good. We're really excited. My guess is we'll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year. We've got to find our Lara Croft so that global search will start sooner rather than later."
The announcement of Waller-Bridge's involvement in the series has received mixed reactions from fans. Some are sceptical, pointing to her recent role in 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,' which didn't fare well with fans or critics. However, it would be premature to dismiss the potential of the 'Tomb Raider' series based solely on these concerns. Waller-Bridge has a strong track record as a writer and producer, and her passion for the franchise is evident.

She expressed her excitement, saying, "If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she'd explode. 'Tomb Raider' has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can't wait to go on this adventure. Bats 'n all."
