“This is the first film I’ve ever made, and a very personal film about an extraordinary feeling I had in an ordinary bar in the East Village, not too many blocks away from here,” she said in her acceptance speech, reflecting on the film’s beginnings. “I’ve learned from this film, as have all of us, that you’re never alone when experiencing an amazing feeling.”

This Year’s Gotham Awards Included Bigger Movies

Although independent films are usually the focus of the Gotham Awards, this year’s nominees included bigger productions like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Priscilla.’

To provide a more varied selection, the Gotham Film and Media Institute deviated from its customary $35 million budget cap requirement. With four nominations, ‘All of Us Strangers’ received the most, closely followed by ‘Past Lives’ by Celine Song and ‘A Thousand and One’ by A.V. Rockwell, with three nominations apiece.
