‘Turtles All The Way Down’ Trailer: Isabela Merced Grapples With Anxiety in Coming-of-Age Romantic Drama

The film ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ draws inspiration from John Green’s acclaimed novel published under the same title. It’s a poignant coming-of-age romantic drama that delves into the life of Aza Holmes, a young girl grappling with anxiety while navigating the pressures of meeting her family’s expectations.

According to reports from Comic Book, the film adaptation of ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ was initially announced by Fox 2000 Pictures. However, due to the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company, the production house was shut down. Subsequently, New Line Cinema took over the project, leading to several years of development before finally commencing production in 2022.

The storyline revolves around Aza Holmes, a 17-year-old dealing with anxiety and striving to fulfil her roles as a dutiful daughter, loyal friend, and diligent student. Her internal struggles manifest as intrusive thoughts that incessantly plague her mind, making it challenging for her to lead a normal life.

Amidst this turmoil, her reconnection with Davis Pickett, her childhood crush, becomes a pivotal point in her journey toward managing her fears and gaining deeper insights into her mental health.

During discussions about the film, Isabela Merced, who plays a key role in the movie, shared how she drew inspiration from John Green’s manner of speaking. She recalled filming a particularly challenging scene, the climax of the movie involving hand sanitiser, where she felt completely absorbed at the moment. 

John Green, in response, expressed his concern for everyone’s well-being during such emotionally intense scenes, emphasising the importance of ensuring a safe and supportive environment on set.
