Royal biographer Robert Jobson is back with a new book offering fresh insights into the private world of the Royal Family. His latest work, ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales’, delves into one of the most-watched royal weddings ever: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s.
The couple married in 2011, with 1,900 guests attending the ceremony and nearly 1,000 at the receptions. While many moments were public, Jobson’s book reveals new details about the private celebrations.

The book describes two receptions held in the days following the wedding. Queen Elizabeth hosted 650 guests at the first reception, and Prince Charles (now King Charles) hosted 300 at the more intimate second reception in Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room. Jobson recounts that one attendee called the evening “the most magical party imaginable.”
Only William and Kate’s closest friends were invited, and the entertainment included a live performance by their favourite musician, Ellie Goulding. Goulding sang ‘Your Song’ by Elton John, admitting she was nervous, and also performed ‘Starry Eyed’ and a cover of ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers. The evening ended with the couple dancing to The Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’ and a fireworks display.
Jobson’s book also reveals that during the reception, William and Kate surprised guests by dancing to ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from ‘Grease’, mimicking the lead characters Danny and Sandy.
Additionally, the book sheds light on personal moments and challenges, including how Prince William had previously ended their relationship over the phone in 2007 and Kate’s initial reluctance to assume the Princess of Wales title due to comparisons with Princess Diana.
Another revelation includes a tense exchange between Prince William and Meghan Markle, which reportedly stemmed from a conflict between Meghan and Kate. The book also touches on Kate’s past health issues, including surgery for a lump in her head as a teenager.
