Warner Bros. has announced a revised release schedule for its upcoming live-action/animated hybrid film ‘Animal Friends’, postponing its debut from 10 October 2025 to 1 May 2026. The road trip adventure, directed by Peter Atencio, features a script penned by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.

The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. The project comes from a collaboration between Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios. Notably, ‘Animal Friends’ began development at Sony Pictures before moving to Warner Bros. last year under the studio’s existing agreement with Legendary.

The updated release date for ‘Animal Friends’ now puts it in direct box office competition with Disney’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ also scheduled for 1st May 2026. Meanwhile, Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, previously set for that weekend, has been pushed to a later date in the same year.

Atencio’s previous directing credits include the action comedies ‘Keanu’ (2016) and ‘The Machine’ (2023), as well as work on the Apple TV+ series ‘The Afterparty’.

Reynolds was last seen in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which became 2024’s second-highest-grossing global box office hit. His upcoming slate features ‘Mayday’, an Apple TV+ title directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, co-starring Kenneth Branagh and Maria Bakalova.

Upcoming Projects for Momoa and Plaza

Momoa, fresh from his appearance in ‘A Minecraft Movie’ alongside Jack Black and Danielle Brooks, is also set to star in the upcoming projects ‘In the Hand of Dante’ and ‘The Wrecking Crew’, the latter teaming him up with Dave Bautista. Plaza, meanwhile, is set to appear in ‘Honey Don’t!’ later this year.
