What is Sony’s Plan After The Trainwreck of ‘Madame Web’?

The highly anticipated ‘Madame Web’ movie turned out to be a major disappointment, leaving the makers wishing they could erase it from memory. Positioned within the Sony Spiderverse Universe, the movie was expected to tie in with the MCU’s Spider-Man, but it missed the mark completely.
However, a recent report suggests that Sony is gearing up for another animated ‘Spider-Woman’ movie, this time with a focus on a female superhero lead.

Recent animated ‘Spider-Man’ films have enjoyed considerable success and critical acclaim. However, ‘Madame Web,’ centred on a female lead, was a critical and commercial disaster. Insider Daniel Richtman reveals that Sony Studios is now developing at least two more animated Spider-Man movies, one centred on the hero’s adversaries and another featuring a female lead, in response to the failure of Dakota Johnson’s Marvel debut.
Details about the female-led project remain scarce, but it’s distinct from the previously announced Spider-Woman project dating back to 2018. The earlier female-led spinoff, originating from ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ was unveiled shortly before the film’s release.

Producer Amy Pascal disclosed that it would primarily spotlight Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Woman, while introducing characters like Silk and Jessica Drew.
So, what led to ‘Madame Web”s downfall at Sony Studios? Despite the success of Sony’s animated Spiderverse movies, the movie faced heavy criticism for its weak script and storyline. Its debut in live-action failed to make a significant impact on the Sony Spiderverse Universe, leaving audiences underwhelmed and critics unimpressed.
