Will There Be a 'Madame Web 2'?

'Madame Web' made its debut in cinemas worldwide on 14th February, but fans are already questioning the possibility of a sequel in Sony's 'Spider-Man' Universe.

This latest addition to the Marvel Comics adaptation features Dakota Johnson taking on the titular role of Madame Web, a woman discovering her psychic abilities. Joining her are Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson of 'Anatomy of a Scandal' fame, and co-written by a team including Claire Parker, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film encountered a rocky start with negative reviews surfacing after its Los Angeles premiere, with critics deeming it "an embarrassing mess."

Johnson herself described the experience of acting amidst a plethora of CGI effects as "absolutely psychotic," noting the challenge of reacting to imaginary explosions and other digital elements. Despite initial doubts, she expressed trust in director S.J. Clarkson's dedication to the project.

But what about a sequel? With Sony's Spider-Man Universe having previously featured hits like 'Venom' (2018), 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' (2021) and 'Morbius' (2022), fans are curious about what's next. While upcoming releases like 'Kraven the Hunter' and 'Venom 3' are slated for 2024, there's been no official word on a 'Madame Web' sequel. Given the lukewarm reception to the first installment, the possibility remains uncertain.

However, there's a twist in the web. Sony and Marvel struck a deal in 2019 to collaborate on the Spider-Man character and storyline, with hints of crossover between Sony's Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in mid-credit scenes of recent films like 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' and 'Morbius.' This opens the door for characters from 'Madame Web' to potentially make appearances in the MCU down the line.

So, while 'Madame Web 2' might not be swinging into cinemas just yet, the interconnected nature of these cinematic universes suggests that the web of possibilities remains tangled and full of surprises.
