You Can Always Count on Mona Patel to Save The Met Gala

It’s probably every girl’s dream to step onto a glamorous stage like the Met Gala, designed by one of the most famous stylists of our time. Entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel is living that dream. Alongside the rising acting star and co-host of the Met Gala 2024, Zendaya, Law Roach has styled some big names for the event, including this newcomer who’s caught the eye of the Met Gala’s elite.

Now firmly rooted in the US, Patel has built a million-dollar empire, centred around Couture For Cause, a non-profit blending fashion with philanthropy. Her Forbes Next 1000 recognition has earned her a spot at the fashion event of the year, the Met Gala 2024, where she debuted in a custom Iris Van Herpen creation.

“I wanted my debut look to honour my heritage while showcasing my love for couture,” Patel told Vogue India in March. Iris Van Herpen’s avant-garde style, inspired by nature, was the perfect fit for the theme. Crafted partly by Indian embroidery houses, Patel’s gown featured a stunning sculpted design with butterfly accents, paying homage to the ‘Garden of Time’ theme.

A stickler for perfection, Patel enlisted the help of legendary stylist Law Roach to curate her Met Gala appearance. Vogue India got an exclusive look into their meticulous process, from a factory visit in Mumbai to selecting jewels and discussing everything from Gujarati cuisine to travel plans at the Vogue offices.
