Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon Part 2' is The Worst-Reviewed Movie in His Career

Zack Snyder's new movie released and it seems like it's not quite hitting the mark. 'Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver' premiered on the streaming service last Friday, continuing the saga from its 2023 predecessor. The plot follows Sofia Boutella's character, a former soldier, rallying warriors from nearby planets to fend off the menacing Imperium threatening her farming colony.

Critics haven't been kind to Snyder's latest venture. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is currently scraping by with a meagre 17 per cent rating, marking it the lowest point in Snyder's directorial journey. This rating nudges past the previous instalment, which clocked in at 21 per cent.

Snyder's track record with critics has been mixed; his DC Extended Universe films like 'Man of Steel,' 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and the original cut of 'Justice League' all received less than glowing reviews, with scores ranging from 29 to 56 per cent.

Contrarily, Snyder's directorial debut, 'Dawn of the Dead' (2004), stands as his highest-rated project at 76 per cent, closely followed by the extended cut of 'Justice League' from 2021, which garnered 72 per cent approval.

In one scathing review, The Times quipped, “You’d sell your granny for a sci-fi brain gizmo that could wipe the entire mess from your mind forever.” Meanwhile, The Telegraph lamented, “We’re given hundreds of details about this galaxy far, far away, but no reasons to care about any of them.”

Snyder has expressed his bewilderment at the backlash, stating, “I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews. For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarizing and it always has been. The movie, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much in it that would warrant such visceral responses.” Despite his resilience, Boutella confessed to being deeply affected by the negative critiques.

“I always thought that I was fully armed to take on those punches, and then I read the critics that came down on Rebel Moon, and it really affected me,” she admitted. “I’m just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying it for everybody who cared so much about this project, and that’s what affected me. Not the way I look. If anything, I’ve been pretty lucky, and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized.”
