Zendaya has found a unique way to manage her anxiety: doing her own makeup. The famous star recently opened up about this coping mechanism during an appearance on Vogue Australia’s ‘Either or Neither’ segment, where she shared insights into her life and preferences.
The 27-year-old actress revealed that her anxiety dates back to a live performance mishap on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013. During her performance, Zendaya's mic pack malfunctioned, leaving her unable to hear anything through her earbuds. This incident, one of her first live TV performances, left a lasting impact on her confidence when it came to singing live.

"I used to struggle with anxiety pretty badly. It only happened when I sang live, not when I danced or did any other live performances, and it stemmed from a bad experience I had while singing on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2013. It wasn't my best performance and I've never let myself live that down," Zendaya shared in a post retrieved via Teen Vogue.
To cope with this anxiety, Zendaya discovered that doing her own makeup provided a calming effect. During the Vogue Australia segment, she expressed how this simple act helps her manage anxious moments. "I actually really enjoy doing my own makeup. Sometimes when I get really anxious, it kind of helps me calm down a little bit," she explained.

Zendaya also discussed her preferences for fashion shows over movie premieres, noting that the former feels less pressured since she is enjoying someone else’s work, whereas premieres come with more anxiety.
In her candid conversation, Zendaya highlighted how she gradually overcame her stage fright by focusing on other aspects of her career, such as acting. "I did figure out how to bury my anxiety, though. I've tried focusing my energy on other things, like making movies. And I took my time and slowly built my confidence back up before I went back out on stage to sing live," she said.
Now, with a successful career and newfound confidence, Zendaya continues to use makeup as a tool to manage her anxiety. Her openness about her struggles and how she overcomes them is not only relatable but also inspiring for many of her fans.
