Zendaya Wants a Part in ‘Dune 3’: "It’s a Yes From Me"

Zendaya has expressed her openness to rejoin the 'Dune' franchise for a potential third film. During an interview with Fandango alongside her 'Dune: Part Two' co-stars to promote the upcoming Denis Villeneuve film, Zendaya shared her enthusiasm for the director's planned continuation of the sci-fi series.

"Would we be down? I mean, of course," Zendaya stated. "Any time Denis calls, it’s a yes from me. I’m excited to see what happens. I started Messiah and I was like, ‘Woah, I’m only shooting the first movie. Let me just go back to the first one.’ It’s so much to take in, but there’s no better hands with better care and love for it than Denis."

Adding to her sentiments, Zendaya expressed her anticipation for the future, saying, "I’m just excited to see... It’s just anticipation. Whenever he is ready. He’s a perfectionist in many ways and doesn’t want to share things until they’re ready. So I’m respecting that and waiting until he’s ready."

Zendaya's comments follow Denis Villeneuve's tease in August 2023 about his plans to adapt Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, 'Dune: Messiah,' as the third installment in the 'Dune' film franchise. At the time, Villeneuve hinted, "I will say, there are words on paper."

'Dune Messiah' is a direct sequel to the first 'Dune' book, with Villeneuve explaining that his adaptation aligns more closely with Herbert's intended warning, rather than the perception of Paul Atreides as a hero.

In a December update, Villeneuve shared that the script for the third film was currently in progress, stating, "The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time... There’s a dream of making a third movie... it would make absolute sense to me." However, he acknowledged the possibility of a detour before returning to the Dune universe for his mental well-being.

Denis Villeneuve's revamped take on the franchise will continue with 'Dune: Part Two,' featuring Timothèe Chalamet and Zendaya, set to hit cinemas on 15th March.
