Whoopi Goldberg Responds to Beyoncé's Lack of Nominations at 2024 CMA Awards

Beyoncé’s absence from the 2024 CMA Awards nominations for her album ‘Cowboy Carter ‘has sparked discussion, with Whoopi Goldberg addressing the surprise on ‘The View’. During the episode, Goldberg shared that while many are shocked, she wasn’t.

"I don't think she was snubbed; I think they just didn’t... it wasn’t for them," she said. Despite ‘Cowboy Carter’ topping the Billboard 200 and making Beyoncé the first Black woman to lead the Hot Country Albums chart, the album didn’t secure any nominations.

Fellow panellist Sunny Hostin expressed disappointment, especially as Dolly Parton appeared on ‘Cowboy Carter’ to introduce a rendition of ‘Jolene’ and ‘Texas Hold 'Em’. Hostin, a fan of Parton, felt the album deserved at least a nomination, saying, "But, my mother always told me, 'Find the audience that's looking for you.' This audience isn't looking for her."

Goldberg had previously addressed the idea of "snubs" in entertainment, emphasising that not everyone can win and that art is inherently subjective.

She argued that, much like films, music is often a matter of personal taste, and what resonates with some might not appeal to others.

On ‘The View’, Goldberg reiterated this sentiment, explaining that awards are subjective, stating,

"The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting." Her perspective highlights the nature of creative industries, where recognition often depends on the preferences of voting bodies rather than universal appeal.
