Why Jelly Roll Skipped The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards

Jelly Roll, also known as Jason DeFord, may have missed one of country music’s biggest nights, but his presence is still felt. The rising star, known for his hit ‘Son of a Sinner’, skipped the People’s Choice Country Awards to perform a sold-out show in Boston as part of his Beautifully Broken tour.

Despite his absence from the Nashville event, Jelly Roll was nominated for top awards, including people’s artist of the year, best male artist, and song of the year. MGK, Jelly Roll’s longtime collaborator, took the stage to accept the award for best crossover song for their hit ‘Lonely Road’.

During his speech, MGK reflected on their past rivalry, saying, “Jelly, I love you. We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other. There’s enough room on this couch for everybody.” Their relationship has come full circle, with the two once feuding rappers now celebrating success together in the country music world.

Jelly Roll’s absence didn’t go unnoticed, especially after his major win at the CMT Awards earlier in the year, where he took home several accolades, including male video of the year. While he wasn’t in Nashville, his influence on the night was clear, and his ongoing tour showcases his growing popularity.

The award-winning star continues to ride a wave of success, with his next major appearance slated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Fans of Jelly Roll can expect even more from him as he pushes boundaries in both country and rock music.

As Jelly Roll’s career continues to skyrocket, his decision to miss the awards for a sold-out tour date is a testament to his dedication to his craft and fans.
