A viral scene where Lady Gaga was spotted kissing a female extra during the filming of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ didn’t make it into the final version of the film, with director Todd Phillips now revealing why.
Fans had eagerly speculated about the moment after footage circulated online, showing Gaga, who plays a grittier Harley Quinn, kissing a woman on the courthouse steps. However, this improvised kiss, along with other Gaga scenes from trailers, was cut from the final film.

Phillips explained that while the scene was spontaneous and memorable, it didn’t align with the musical and atmospheric direction he wanted for that particular moment. The director shared that the kiss originally involved dialogue, but ultimately, it disrupted the flow of the scene.
Phillips clarified, “It had dialogue in it, and I wanted it to be more of a music and vibe moment. For that moment to have played, it needed dialogue behind it. The woman said something, and then Gaga stopped and did this thing, and it just kind of got in the way of the moment.” This shift in vision reflects Phillips’ intention to focus more on the mood and energy of the musical sequel.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ stars Joaquin Phoenix, reprising his role as Arthur Fleck, now on trial after the events of the original film. The movie also showcases Gaga as Lee, a darker take on ‘Harley Quinn’. Phillips previously shared that Gaga was immediately drawn to the project, committing to the role even before the script was fully written.
Gaga praised Phillips for taking bold creative risks with the sequel, describing the film as a blend of drama, comedy, and musical elements, all while maintaining its courtroom setting. Her admiration for his unique approach highlights the daring complexity behind ‘Folie à Deux’.
