‘Wicked’ Chemistry: Behind Ethan Slater and Ariana Grande’s Electrifying Scenes Together

The on-screen relationship between Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater in ‘Wicked’ is finally being seen by audiences. The two met while working on the much-awaited film musical, in which Slater plays Shiz University student Boq and Grande plays Glinda.

Glinda and Boq first meet in ‘Wicked: Part One’ when they start attending Shiz for their education. Boq, who is from Munchkinland, is immediately enthralled with Glinda but is more concerned with gaining the favour of Jonathan Bailey’s character, Prince Fiyero. Characters bond as the narrative progresses: Boq tries to ask Glinda to dance, but she diverts his attention to Nessarose, Elphaba’s sister, who serves as a matchmaker. As everything is going on, the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba develops, laying the groundwork for the main plot of the movie.

Months after the start of ‘Wicked’ production, Grande and Slater’s relationship was confirmed off-screen by PEOPLE in July 2023. This came after Slater’s breakup with Lilly Jay and Grande’s breakup with Dalton Gomez. 

After the movie’s Australian premiere, Grande publicly acknowledged her relationship with Slater by posting a picture of him on Instagram. Both celebrities praised one other’s performances during promotional events, with Grande complimenting Slater’s skill and personality and Slater admiring Grande’s Glinda depiction.

‘Wicked: Part One’ is now showing in theatres, and the sequel is scheduled to be released on 21st November 2025.
