Will Reeve Says He Has No Interest in Following Late Dad as ‘Superman’

Will Reeve is proud to honor his late father, ‘Superman’ star Christopher Reeve, but he's content to let others take on the superhero role. At the New York City premiere of the documentary ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’, Will, 32, told PEOPLE, "I like my job as a correspondent at ABC News... I enjoy performing, but I’m not sure if acting is for me."

The new ‘Superman’ movie, set for release in July 2025, will star David Corenswet as the iconic character, and Will approves of the casting, saying, "I think they got a good one in David." Though Will will make a brief cameo in the film, he and his siblings—Matthew, 44, and Alexandra, 40—play a much larger role in the documentary. The film covers Christopher Reeve’s life, from his early days in New York City with his close friend Robin Williams, to the 1995 accident that left him paralyzed, and his eventual death from heart failure in 2004 at age 52.

The documentary also highlights the love and dedication of Will’s mother, Dana Reeve, who became Christopher’s primary caregiver after the accident. Will described her as "maybe the most special person ever to grace this earth," adding that her selflessness was just part of who she was. Tragically, Dana passed away from lung cancer in 2006, just 17 months after Christopher’s death. In the film, Will, who was only 13 at the time, reflects on that devastating loss, saying, "That's when I realized I was completely alone."

In an interview with PEOPLE, Will spoke about how his life changed after losing both parents. He moved in with close family friends who became like family to him. He also shared how his older siblings, Matthew and Alexandra, provided him with strength and love during those tough times. “Everybody stepped up,” Will said, expressing gratitude for the support of his grandparents and the close-knit community that rallied around him.

Reflecting on the outpouring of support, Will noted, "It takes a village, and our village responded in an incredible way."

‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ will be shown in select theatres with encore screenings on 25th September, which would have been Christopher Reeve’s 72nd birthday.
