Will Smith Becomes Neo in Epic Matrix-Inspired Music Video With Big Sean

Will Smith is getting back in touch with his artistic roots while honouring his past.

His first record release in more than 20 years, ‘Based on a True Story’, was announced on 30th January. The album, which is scheduled for release in March, will include previously released singles such as ‘Tantrum’, which includes a collaboration with Joyner Lucas, ‘You Can Make It’, and ‘Work of Art’.

Smith released his most recent single, ‘Beautiful Scars,’ featuring Big Sean and Obanga, concurrently with the album announcement. Smith plays Neo from ‘The Matrix’, a role he famously declined in favour of ‘Wild Wild West’, in the music video, which has a cinematic air to it.

Big Sean, who plays Morpheus in the video, makes fun of Smith’s professional decisions while implying that he may have had regrets in the past. He presents Smith with the traditional red-and-blue decision: either stay the same or return and star in the film he passed on. Smith jokingly swallows both pills, causing Sean to react with astonishment.

After that, the video transitions into sequences that are full of action, including gunfights and martial arts. A press release claims that the song examines the difficulties of celebrity and the lessons learnt from past errors.

Fans conjectured that Smith would be a part of an impending ‘Matrix’ remake when he originally hinted at ‘Beautiful Scars’ earlier in January. It has been verified, meanwhile, that he is not currently involved with the initiative.
