With This Kelsea Ballerini Hit, Kelly Clarkson Transports Us to Neverland

Kelly Clarkson opened The Kelly Clarkson Show on 11th May, playing Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘Peter Pan’ as the second performer.

Ballerini’s 2016 country hit was pared down to a tender ballad by the multi-hyphenate, who sang, “You’re just a lost boy with your head up in the clouds/ You’re just a lost boy, never keep your feet on the ground/ You’re just a lost boy, never keep your feet on the ground/ You’re just a lost boy, never keep your feet on the You’ll always fly away only to prove to yourself that you can/ You’ll never learn that there is no such thing as Neverland. You don’t understand, Peter Pan, you’ll never grow up/ You’ll never be a man.”

The song, which was released as the third single from Ballerini’s first album ‘The First Time’ in 2015, gave her a hat trick of No. 1s on the Country Airplay chart, following fellow No. 1s ‘Love Me Like You Mean It’ and ‘Dibs.’ Ballerini also got her first — and so far only — No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

After finishing her daily “Kellyoke” routine, Clarkson spoke with guests, Michelle Pfeiffer and Dakota Fanning about their new Showtime series ‘The First Lady’, in which they play Betty Ford and her daughter Susan, respectively, as well as about working together on Fanning’s first film, ‘I Am Sam’, more than two decades ago.

Her rendition of ‘Peter Pan’ wasn’t the show’s only musical moment. Later in the show, she welcomed Rick Springfield to play his legendary song ‘Jessie’s Girl’ in honour of the song’s 40th anniversary.
