World of Warcraft’s Timewalking Dungeons Are Getting Tougher — and More Rewarding in Patch 11.1.7

Blizzard is introducing notable changes to World of Warcraft’s Timewalking dungeons in Patch 11.1.7, increasing their difficulty while boosting the rewards players can earn. These updates are now available for testing on the Public Test Realm (PTR) and are expected to go live with the full release of the patch.

Timewalking, a recurring in-game event, lets players revisit older dungeons and raids from previous expansions, scaled to match their current level. These activities grant Timewarped Badges, a currency used to purchase unique cosmetics and reputation items linked to each featured expansion. However, starting in Patch 11.1.7, players should prepare for a tougher experience when entering Timewalking dungeons.

According to recent PTR patch notes, enemy health in all Timewalking dungeons is being increased — with bosses receiving an even greater health boost. Additionally, Blizzard is refining how damage scales with item level. Players with lower gear scores will be a bit more resilient, while well-equipped characters will notice that enemies deal more damage to them. This shift is designed to create a more balanced and engaging experience regardless of gear level.

To make up for the increased challenge, rewards are also being upgraded. Players will now receive Adventurer-tier gear instead of Explorer gear, and the number of Timewarped Badges awarded per dungeon completion is being raised from 10 to 25.

Although these changes might seem intimidating at first, they are intended to address long-standing inconsistencies in Timewalking difficulty. Currently, low-level characters can breeze through encounters, while those above level 60 or 70 can struggle if their gear isn’t up to par. The update aims to make Timewalking dungeons more reflective of real combat situations, encouraging players to practice damage rotations, healing, and class abilities in a more authentic environment.

These changes arrive just in time for the Turbulent Timeways event, which is set to return with Patch 11.1.7. This event will bring six consecutive weeks of Timewalking, including the long-awaited debut of Battle for Azeroth Timewalking content.

While Blizzard hasn’t officially confirmed the release date for Patch 11.1.7, the PTR calendar hints at a potential launch on June 17, lining up with the start of Turbulent Timeways. Fans can likely expect more details soon.

Developer Insights on Timewalking Changes – Patch 11.1.7 PTR Notes:

  • All enemies in Timewalking dungeons will have increased health.
  • Bosses receive a substantial health boost to enhance challenge.
  • Damage scaling is refined:
  • Lower-geared players will be slightly more resistant to incoming damage.
  • Higher-geared players will face more noticeable damage from enemies.
  • A bug affecting item level scaling with enchantments and gems has been fixed.
  • Dungeon rewards upgraded from Explorer to Adventurer gear.
  • Badge rewards increased to 25 Timewarped Badges per run (up from 10).

Blizzard emphasizes that these adjustments are meant to offer a more meaningful and skill-testing experience in Timewalking dungeons. The team is continuing to monitor feedback and may make additional tweaks before the patch goes live.
