Zoe Saldaña is open to reprising her role in the iconic 2002 film ‘Crossroads’, a teen drama that also starred Britney Spears and Taryn Manning. The film followed the journey of three childhood friends who embark on a road trip to California after graduating high school, exploring themes of friendship and self-discovery.
Saldaña’s character, Kit, was the most popular girl in school, aiming to visit her fiancé at UCLA, while Spears portrayed Lucy, who secretly aspired to be a singer, and Manning played Mimi, a character facing serious challenges.
In a recent conversation Saldaña expressed enthusiasm for a potential sequel, saying, “Why not?”

However, she emphasised that the return of original cast members is essential for any continuation of the story. “But I feel like it would only work if Britney comes back and plays her character again,” she stated. The actress also highlighted the importance of including Taryn Manning and Anson Mount, who played Lucy’s love interest, Ben.
Saldaña further elaborated on the need for realistic storylines in a sequel, indicating a desire for depth and authenticity in character development. She remarked, “That would be beautiful,” showcasing her commitment to honouring the original film while also allowing for growth in the characters’ arcs.
Reflecting on the trend of sequels in contemporary cinema, Saldaña acknowledged the shift in audience expectations. “We’ve been living the last 20 years in the world of sequels,” she noted, explaining that sequels have expanded beyond action and superhero genres, now thriving in various categories.
The original ‘Crossroads’ featured Spears’ empowering anthem “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” which resonated with a generation of young fans. Saldaña’s potential return, along with the original cast, could breathe new life into the beloved classic while catering to a nostalgic audience.
