Selena’s a Whole New Person
With the release of her album, ‘Rare’, Selena Gomez has shown us a completely new side to her, one that’s matured, and come to love and respect herself immensely. For an artist that has started out in the music industry at such a young age, she’s had her fair share of ups and downs and has come to acknowledge this. She grew into a pop star that still manages to stay true to herself, despite the intense pressure from every corner of the industry.
She’s also an extremely honest, open person and we’ve seen this particularly in a recent interview she did. She spoke about everything under the sun, from her Latin roots, to the toxic nature of social media and of course, some lighter elements, like her favourite dog breed and who she’d want to be stuck in a lift with.
So, here’s your chance to get to know Selena just a bit more intimately!
Alright, let’s start off with the one question everyone’s curious about, who would she want to be stuck in a lift with? Well, the answer came as a pleasant surprise. She chose Princess Diana. “There’s this interview I will never forget where she is like, ‘I just want to be the queen of people’s hearts.’ You know, she didn’t necessarily care for all of the rules that (were imposed on her),” Selena gushed.
Now, on a more serious note, she spoke in detail about her Latin roots, discussing the fact that her grandparents had to come across the border illegally and she wouldn’t have been born otherwise.
She elaborated further, “I have such an appreciation for my last name. I’ve rereleased a lot of music in Spanish as well, and that’s something that’s gonna happen a bit more. So there’s a lot more I would love to do because I don’t take it lightly, I’m very honoured.”
Speaking about her growth as a person over the past few years, she mentioned that she was able to discover herself through her music and experiences, and it came as an epiphany to her.
“I’m just leaving behind that girl who was just, you know, very timid, weak, abused and silent. And now I’m stepping into who I’m meant to be; I’m leaving that girl behind. I’m giving her a hug. I am who I am.”
On a lighter note, Selena confessed that her go-to karaoke song was anything by Cardi B. Her favourite track off the ‘Rare’ album is ‘Vulnerable’. The first CD she ever earned was Britney’s ‘Baby One More Time’. And last but not least, when asked what horror movie she’d love to be cast in, she confessed it would be Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’.
And finally, when asked what she’d like to be doing in ten years’ time, she admitted that she’d love to continue her philanthropic work. “But I just hope that I’m super-happy and creating good things for the world,” she added.
