A Celebration of India’s Brightest Independent Acts
With our 74th Independence Day right around the corner, we’ve got quite the treat lined up for you. What better way to celebrate the spirit of freedom than with music from some of the country’s finest homegrown artists? For this special occasion, we’ve decided to shine the spotlight on some of the brightest Independent acts out there, ones that’ve redefined the music landscape of the country.
Finding a warm spot on our list are old classics, like the Indian pop-rock band, ‘Euphoria’, formed by Dr. Palash Sen in 1988. Initially rooted in English rock, the band has evolved and matured over the years, adopting a fantastic fusion of rock music arrangements with Hindi Lyrics and melodies. With the release of their debut album “Dhoom” in 1998, Euphoria was the first indigenous band that became a household name.
Euphoria has released 7 studio albums and are one of India’s highest-selling bands ever.
Apart from this, our list also bears witness to some newer acts like, ‘When Chai Met Toast’ and of course, the much loved Prateek Kuhad. The latter has built a huge crowd following with his moody, heartbreaking tunes. In fact, his music has also created quite the splash in international markets, even managing to land a spot on former U.S. President, Barack Obama’s Favourites playlist.
Now, bands like, ‘When Chai Met Toast’, are newbies to the industry and yet, they’ve still managed to carve out a unique space for their music. The group’s debut album, “Joy of Little Things” garnered a lot of attention due to its multilingual nature. And so, not too long after, this record put them on the map.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg. We’re also celebrating musicians like, Thaikkudam Bridge, Parikrama, the F16s and more. We’re not giving away any other spoilers, so stay tuned to celebrate the spirit of freedom, with a string of phenomenal Indie artists!
