The annual BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network. In a move of inclusion, the award show strives to celebrate and honour the work of members from the African-American community. Entertainers and representatives in all fields including music, acting, sports and entertainment find a place at this award show.
A statement from BET reads: “Using an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content, the show will continue, allowing the audience to join in a celebration of black love, joy, pride and power with an all-star lineup”.
The 2020 BET Awards will be held on the 28th of June with minor changes in programming, reflecting the ongoing global pandemic.
