Eminem Sides Chris Brown on a Leaked Snippet of His New Song!
An unreleased snippet of Eminem rapping about his support of Chris Brown popped up on Reddit over the weekend. Titled “(SNIPPET) Eminem – Things Get Worse (Rihanna Diss),” the brief clip finds Em rapping, “Of course I side with Chris Brown/I’d beat a bitch down too.”
This, of course, is in reference to Brown’s 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna. The snippet is allegedly a scrapped verse from Slim Shady’s 2002 Relapse sessions. Clearly, the verse in question didn’t make the album, but an alternate version of it appeared on B.o.B.’s 2011 track “Things Get Worse,” although neither RiRi or Brown are mentioned in the verse. Em, however, does name drop other celebrity women, including Jessica Simpson, Angelina Jolie and Dakota Fanning.
In the past, Eminem and Rihanna have had a close working relationship and have collaborated multiple times on chart-topping hits including 2010’s “Love The Way You Lie,” 2012’s “Numb” and 2013’s “The Monster.” The pair even toured together in 2014. Naturally everyone on Twitter is deeply unimpressed and coming to Rihanna’s defense
After the snippet leaked, Twitter users criticized the rapper for the problematic line. “Eminem’s grown ass is really glorifying abuse for a damn song,” one critic tweeted. Several other users pointed out that Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) has been rapping about violence for years, most infamously on his 2000 song “Kim,” in which he enacted killing his ex-wife Kim Scott Mathers and putting her in the trunk of his car.
Brown, 30, also physically assaulted his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in his car the night before the Grammy Awards in February 2009. He pleaded guilty to the felony and served nearly five years of probation. The former couple briefly rekindled their romance in late 2012 before splitting again in mid-2013.
Come on Marshall Mathers! We know you’re much better than this!
