Five Arrested In The Murder of Pop Smoke
Five people have been arrested in the murder of Pop Smoke on July 9, 2020 by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to the latest revelations, the arrests include two juveniles for the February slaying.
The Los Angeles Police Department provided few additional details.”LAPD Detectives have arrested three adult males and two juvenile males related to the Feb 19th murder,” it said in a tweet.
Pop Smoke released “Shoot for the Stars Aim For the Moon” just last week which was supposed to drop earlier but due to the police brutality protests across the country, it got delayed. “Universal Music Group had planned to release the album last month, but instead it dropped the single ‘Make It Rain,'”
Steven Victor, senior vice president at Universal, wrote on Instagram, “Given recent events, we have decided to delay the release of his album out of respect for the movement.”
Pop Smoke was murdered during a home invasion at his Hollywood Hills residence. The police department received a call, reporting that people had broken into the house with one of the suspects carrying handgun.
We lost at him too soon, he was very fresh in the music industry. He had only dropped his sophomore mixtape, “Meet The Woo” which released just a week before the killing.
The rapper was pronounced dead few hours later after the shooting at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Several people were detained and released in February for Pop Smoke’s death however no arrests were made.
Pop Smoke experienced a short lived success, his ‘Welcome to the Party’ became a party anthem. Artists like Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill even remixed the track. In an interview, the late artist mentions, “My face, my voice was everywhere, you know what I’m saying? I knew it was gonna be big when I started seeing my face on billboards.”
He’s been making news ever since 2019 even if he’s not with us anymore. Like they say good music stays with you forever, his tracks are surely keeping his fans happy. Pop Smoke must be smiling down on us, knowing he’s been talked about more than ever.
