GAYLE Rocks The Electric Cover of This Alanis Morissette Classic
The teen pop-rock sensation performed a 1990s rendition of her own hit. GAYLE and Alanis Morissette are a heartbroken match made in heaven. The 17-year-old pop-rock sensation is most known for her single “abcdefu,” but she also recorded Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know,” which is virtually the 1990s counterpart of her own hit.
Taylor Gayle Rutherford A.K.A Gayle— offered a solo interpretation of the single while playing a cream electric guitar in a live performance for CoverNation on 17th February. The Texas-bred performer nailed every belted note of her performance, with a particularly stunning moment occurring at the 4:25 mark, wearing a muted orange jacket to match her half-auburn hair.
On her Instagram account, GAYLE bragged about the cover, tagging Morissette and calling her “the love of our lives.” The teenage singer is fresh off the release of her newest hit, “Ur Just Horny,” a similarly angry post-breakup ballad for which she just released a “emotional” remix on 11th February.
GAYLE is slated to perform live gigs in the coming months, so the incendiary new cover is just a taste of what’s to come. She’ll accompany Tate McRae and AJR on their respective 2022 tours, in addition to headlining her inaugural tour in March.
“You Oughta Know,” Morissette’s legendary single, spent 30 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 6. The song was the first single from Jagged Little Pill, which topped the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks in 1995-96. The ferocious song was nominated for two Grammys: best rock song and best female rock vocal performance. It also received a nomination for song of the year.
“abcdefu” by Gayle has been in the Hot 100 for 12 weeks, peaking at No. 6 and staying at No. 7 this week.
