Katy Perry recently sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe where she discussed motherhood, music and well, multitasking. Katy has been making headlines for the past few weeks upon the announcement of her upcoming fifth album. She gave us a taste of this project through her recently released single, ‘Daisies’.
The star is about to enter a new phase of her life and it will undoubtedly have an effect on the kind of music she’s going to create.
“My whole life is about to change and I’m sure I will have a whole new access to different emotions I never had, and will be able to write from. So I’m going to write a whole other record probably when that happens,” Katy Perry told Zane Lowe.
Now, ‘Daisies’ is quite reminiscent of Katy’s older, uplifting numbers like ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’. But, as she clarified, that was all part of the plan. She explained that at the moment she wants to focus on writing “uplifting, inspirational anthems”. And during a difficult period like this, Katy is also probably aware that this might just be the need of the hour right now. People are looking for hope and solace in a number of different things. And it looks like she’s here to provide a ton of that with every new tune she puts out there, coming forward.
How Katy Perry Sees Her Music Changing
“I wrote this song just like it’s another anthem for myself, I came out of a pretty dark time on ‘Witness’ and I’ve been writing a record for two years. I wrote some of it while I was clinically depressed and trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel.” Katy explained. “And my soul sends a message to my intellect, to my head. It says, ‘You’re going to get through it. You’ve gotten through it before. And here’s a nugget of inspiration, how you’re going to do it.’ And it becomes a song,” she concluded. And there you have it. That’s how ‘Daisies’ was born.
Her fifth album is set to drop on August 14th. And if we keep our fingers crossed, she might just leave us with a couple more treats on the way.
