Kelly Clarkson Covers the Hamilton Hit ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’
Much like other talk shows, the Kelly Clarkson Show, is still going virtual. But this week, it witnessed no ordinary episode, it witnessed something absolutely beautiful- Kelly Clarkson joined forces with members of the original ‘Hamilton’ cast and shared a heartfelt rendition of the Broadway show’s tune, ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’.
This tune, sits on ‘The Hamilton Mixtape’ which released back in 2016. With a whopping 23 tracks, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts with 187,000 album-equivalent units, of which 169,000 were pure album sales – and that’s an impressive feat.
The filmed version of the ‘Hamilton’ stage show, which features the original Broadway cast of the award-winning musical, will premiere today. The entire show was filmed at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre in June 2016. Kelly Clarkson helped promote the show by welcoming some of the cast members onboard, this included Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson and Okieriete Onaodowan.
The Hamilton Hit Sees Some Bold Lyrics
Now, coming to this track, it begins with the gentle notes of a piano before segueing into Kelly’s superb vocals. Her melodies simply lift you up, to a whole new height. The lyrics to this tune are poignant, powerful and leave a number of different emotions running right through you. Here, take a look:
There are moments that the words don’t reach
There is suffering too terrible to name
You hold your child as tight as you can
And push away the unimaginable
The moments when you’re in so deep
It feels easier to just swim down
The Hamiltons move uptown
And learn to live with the unimaginable
The cast of ‘Hamilton’ also created quite a splash with their performance of ‘Helpless’ with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, for the ‘Global Goal: Unite for our Future’ concert.
Anyway, here’s to watching more artists cover some of the wonderful tunes sitting on the ‘Hamilton’ mixtape.
