Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty To Weapon Charges
Lil Wayne, the international rap sensation that has listeners tapping a foot to his peppy music has been in the news lately. The rapper has been battling lawsuits for a few years now.
Amongst the various reasons charges have been pressed against the rapper, Wayne has been up against the court for not paying his former managers. Ronald Sweeney and Avant-Garde Management have pressed charges against him for more than $20 million. In what they claimed, the rapper owes them unpaid commissions.
The lawsuit filed, claims that Sweeney and Avant-Garde managed over 30 lawsuits for the singer-rapper and “received very little compensation” in return. Wayne hasn’t paid the 10% recovery from lawsuits, 17% commissions from overall management and 10% of the master recordings sale that was promised.
Sweeney was hired by Wayne in around 2005. The former had issued a public statement on the latter’s behalf in 2018. This occurred when Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Cash Money were announced to have had reached a settlement that ultimately led to the long-delayed release of “Tha Carter V”. He said, “I can say that my client is happy. He is his own man, a man that owns his assets, his music and himself.”
Another Lawsuit
Li’l Wayne has been battling another lawsuit, accusing him of illegal possession of ammunition. This stems from the December 2019 incident in which authorities inspected his private plane on its arrival at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. They are said to have found him transporting a gold-plated handgun. Felony charges were pressed against the singer.
Li’l Wayne will face up to 10 years of a prison sentence as he’s been convicted of a gun charge in 2007 as well. The singer pled guilty in the virtual court hearing of Miami federal court, “Your honour, I plead guilty,” the 38-year-old musician said.
Although the confession might result in a lighter punishment, the previous convictions don’t help the singer’s situation a lot. The sentencing hearing for Wayne is scheduled for January 28th, 2020. So, here’s hoping the rapper comes clean soon. And, treats his fans to some more upbeat, foot-tapping music like his latest album, “Funeral”.
