Lizzo Opens “Dear Class of 2020” With Unique Flute Show
American singer-songwriter, Lizzo, opened the mega event – YouTube Originals’ “Dear Class of 2020” with a powerful performance featuring her beloved flute.
The singer-songwriter began the emotional commencement dressed up in a colourful dress, with her hair flowing down and flute in hand.Lizzo performed an airy version of the classic song “Pomp and Circumstance”.
Her emotional performance took a fun turn when a trap beat entered the scene. Lizzo stopped playing the flute for a minute, saying “Congratulations to the class of 2020! Now let’s turn it up.” A fun trap beat accompanied the rest of the performance, which also featured the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
“Dear Class of 2020” streamed on YouTube Originals for 4 hours, and featured a star studded line up of musicians from around the world.
Lizzo was just one among many who delivered emotional, heartfelt speeches to graduating students all over the world.
Amid the pandemic, many students haven’t had the chance at an official graduation ceremony. And the music and entertainment world came together to give them a commencement like no other. The line up featured BTS, The Obamas, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and more.
“Dear Class of 2020” was postponed by a day in wake of George Floyd’s memorial service (6th June, 2020). And just as many musicians emphasised the importance of taking the year’s recent events into the rest of their lives as learnings, Lizzo celebrated students world over who are making a change. Her pre-recorded video featured a montage of students who have been attending BLM protests, while wearing their graduation caps and gowns.
