Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce Make Rap History
Houston natives and female music stars, Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce, have nabbed the No. 1 spot on this week’s Billboard Hot Rap Songs list, with the remix of Stallion’s “Savage”. Their leap to the top comes a day after they made Billboard history, standing tall and proud with fellow musicians Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj.
Earlier in the week, Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj’s remix of Doja’s hit song ‘Say So’ shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce’s remix of Stallion’s ‘Savage’ followed closely, occupying the No. 2 spot on the Hot 100. This marks the first time in Billboard history that four black women claim the top 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.
‘Savage’ – The Remix, continues to be a defining moment in both Stallion and Beyonce’s career. Marking their first No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs list, the song has also claimed the No. 1 spot on the “all-genre Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs Chart”. The last song by Megan Thee Stallion to hit the Hot Rap Songs list, was the summer hit “Hot Girl Summer”, featuring Ty Dolla Sign and Nicki Minaj, which went on to peak at No. 5.
Beyonce, too, basks in the glory of the Billboard Rap Songs ranking in a career-first. Her feature on “03 Bonnie and Clyde” with husband Jay-Z hit No. 2 on release.
The remix of ‘Savage’ hit streaming services on April 30th; announced by an ecstatic Megan Thee Stallion, the track garnered fan attention immediately and has since been streamed 42.1 million times.
Megan Thee Stallion took to social media to express her gratitude, tweeting: “I’m so happy to be a part of the history that was made today”. “Savage” is out now on all streaming platforms.
