Taylor Swift is Unstoppable; “folklore” and All Its Records
Taylor Swift’s latest release, “folklore”, has proved the singer-songwriter’s versatility and launched her into a streak of historic record-making. And, that’s not all. She shows no signs of stopping.
Late last night, news broke that Taylor Swift’s latest single, ‘cardigan’, has landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This development followed the news of “folklore” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart earlier in the day. And, now, for the big kicker: this is the first time in chart history that an artist has debuted at No. 1 on both charts in the same week, and simultaneously.
Swift took to Twitter to celebrate the impressive feat with a hilarious gif; pretty low-key for a historic record, but we’re not judging. The achievement carries that much more weight when you acknowledge the fact that the album was a surprise release, with no prior marketing.
With news of her hot debut atop the Billboard 200 chart, came the news that this is also her seventh album to notch No. 1. In addition, news broke that Taylor Swift has also officially surpassed reigning queen Nicki Minaj to become the female artist with most Hot 100 entries. All 16 tracks landed a place on the Billboard Hot 100, with ‘hoax’ being her lowest charting track at No. 71. With the latest chart rankings, Taylor scores 113 Hot 100 entries, while Nicki Minaj stands in close second with 110 entries.
“folklore” and Its Many Records
Late last week, Swift also broke major records, earning one major Guinness World Record. With her streaming numbers on Spotify skyrocketing, she scored a record 80.6 million streams in 24-hours. And so, became the female artist with the most day one streams for an album in Spotify history.
In addition, “folklore” has also recorded the biggest debut for an album in 2020, surpassing previous record holder, Juice WRLD by a large margin. According to news reports, the album moved 846,000 units, as compared to Juice WRLD’s ‘Legends Never Die’ which sold 497,000 in its debut week.
As the numbers continue to soar, we’re sure to hear of more history-making records.
