The Bridgertons will be back for Season 2
The series will return with a season of fresh romance and will be all about the eldest of the eight Bridgerton siblings. As every book of the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling, season two will be focused on the story of Anthony Bridgerton, Daphne’s eldest brother. Anthony was left on a bit of a crossroad last season and the story is to pick off right from there. In the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, the leading lady is Kate Sheffield who is the older sister of the woman Anthony is said to marry. When she decides that he is not good enough for her sister the story turns into an enemies-to-lovers plot. Kate, who will be known as Kate Sharma for the show, will be played by Sex Education star Simone Ashley.

The new season is also adding another member to its cast. Rupert Evans is said to play the role of Edmund Bridgerton, the beloved father of the eight Bridgertons. Though it is made clear that the patriarch of the Bridgerton family is dead by the end of season one, it is unclear as to how he died. In the novels, however, we know that he died after suffering an allergic reaction to a bee sting at the age of 38. Anthony Bridgerton who takes on his father’s responsibility as the head of the family feels an intense pressure to live up to his father who he greatly admired. Due to this pressure and the adoration that he had for his father, it makes sense that Edmund will appear in Anthony’s memories in the form of flashbacks as the new season is centered around Anthony’s quest for love.

While we have a new addition to the cast an old favorite will be exiting the series. Regé-Jean Page who played the Duke of Hastings in the first season will not be returning for the second season. As season one ended with a happy ending for the sweet romance between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon, the latter will not be returning. Though Daphne will make a few appearances to support her family.
The show is sure to have other seasons featuring the rest of the Bridgerton siblings and focusing on their romances separately. The show has been renewed for four seasons so far, though there are a total of eight books, eight seasons may be too much to ask for. For now, we can focus on the second season that is sure to come out by 2022.
