Tiwa Savage Recruits Sam Smith For A Sultry New Tune ‘Temptation’

Over the past few months, Sam Smith has taught us to expect the unexpected. And now, hot on the heels of their collaboration with Burna Boy, Sam Smith has featured on yet another track by a Nigerian sensation.  The singer-songwriter, Tiwa Savage, has just given fans a taste of her upcoming album through the track, ‘Temptation’.

This tune opens with a fine cocktail of instrumental pieces. ‘Temptation’ weaves in some groovy afrobeats, with a soulful guitar riff and even a funky saxophone piece. These elements give the vocalists a firm foundation to land on. Tiwa Savage’s tinkling melodies carry the song forward, meeting Sam’s gorgeous verse halfway. The climax of this track also witnesses some lovely harmonies from the pair, ones that compliment both their vocals. 

The song itself speaks of the thrill of a forbidden love affair. As the title suggests, the lyrics tackle lust and passion, in their rawest form. Take a look:

The shape of your body, replays in my mind
The sound of your promises, echo in me deep inside
Crave your attention, it compliments my pride
All fired up, with nowhere to go  

Speaking of collaborating with Smith over ‘Temptation’, Tiwa had this to say, “I literally had goosebumps, because we don’t know how amazing Sam is.  I was like, ‘Wow, this is incredible. And it just changed the whole face of the project. Do you know what I mean? Because this is really happening for afrobeat, not even just with Tiwa.”

The star also touched upon afrobeats as a genre and how it’s managed to grow in popularity over the years. “It’s a blessing to live and witness both, to see how it went from not being cool, to being one of the most sought after genres. And not just that, the music is shining a different light on the continent.”

Tiwa Savage’s upcoming album “Celia” is set to make its landing on Friday, August 28.
