Tones and I Calls Out Fakes in New Song: Listen Now
Australian singer-songwriter has released a new single “Ur So F*cking Cool” accompanied by a music video. The track offers a new sound from her previous releases, using a different hook in the chorus.
“Ur So F*cking Cool” takes a satirical jab at current day internet culture and the superficiality of influencers. Tones and I once again comes out as a crusader for all things Gen X, making a plea for something real in today’s plastic world.
The music video sees Tones and I in disguise playing the roles of a beauty influencer, a high flyer, an astrologer – you name a facet of the internet today, and she’s covered it. Starting the song with some bold lines, she sings “Everybody’s talking ’bout sex/ Everybody’s talking ’bout X//Like no one wants to find a genuine connect”.
As the scene in the music video shifts to a party, we see an out of place Tones and I, talking about the loneliness created by the hyper connectivity of social media today. She sings: “Walk into a party/ Feeling out of place// Everyone’s too cool, everyone’s too fake// Try to start a conversation, but I can’t seem to relate”.
“Ur So F*cking Cool” by Tones and I marks her first release after the two-track EP that featured “Bad Child” and “Never Seen the Rain” a few months ago. As she continues to ride the wave of success from her track “Dance Monkey”, this song offers a hook entirely different from her previous releases – something we longed for.
