ZHU, Steven Zhu, who is a music producer/singer/musician is being taken to court. This week, his long time collaborator David Dann has filed a lawsuit worth $4.35 million against him. The legal action has been filed in a California State Court.

Details On The Lawsuit:

The lawsuit filed by David Dann is based on the singer breaching the legal terms of an existing agreement. David Dann and co. have accused ZHU of promissory fraud.

Additionally, ZHU has allegedly violated several written and oral contracts. The lawsuit claims for at least $3.45 million in damages. At this moment, the case is slated for a hearing in a California court on February 25, 2021.

History Between Dann And ZHU:

David Dann is the CEO and founder of illustrious record company ‘Mind Of A Genius.’ The label was founded in 2013, and ZHU was one of Dann’s initial signings. The LA-based outfit steadily grew in stature to sign a range of other artists.

After the pair met in 2013, Steven allegedly showed Dann the melody for his song ‘Faded.’ Following this, David Dann collaborated with him to complete the record. The tune was released on April 20, 2014, via Mind of a Genius. The track went on to become one of the biggest songs of the year. The music producer also bagged a 2015 Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

Following the success of the collaboration, Dann says he took on working with Zhu full time. ZHU also joined Mind of a Genius ‘as an equal partner.’

After the success of the single, he released his first 2014 EP titled The Nighday. This came via Mind of A Genius Records. Ever since then Zhu has released two full-length studio albums, Generationwhy in 2016 (via Columbia Records) and Ringos Desert in 2018 (via Mind of A Genius Records).

Both parties continue to dispute the agreement between the Dann and ZHU. As of now, the legal battle is far from being resolved and with such high stakes, this could take a while. Stay tuned to indigomusic.com for all the latest on this story.
