RJ Niladri caught up with Indian-American singer-songwriter, Aditya Rao. He first gained international attention in 2013 and later in 2015 after taking home, India’s coveted State Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts and the title of ‘Best Debut Artist.’ Aditya has been classically trained in Carnatic vocals since he was a little child. His music blends Western and Eastern influences to create a unique sound that crosses genres.

Adi has contributed to numerous well-known collaborations with prominent musicians from all around the world.

He has done performances for the American President, the Indian Prime Minister and 50,000 spectators in a stadium. In R. Madhavan’s biopic film, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022)’, he sings lead on nine original songs and arranges the vocals for those tracks .

He has collaborated with multi-Grammy and Oscar-winning music director, A.R. Rahman on the soundtracks for the 2016 Indian and Hollywood films ‘Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada’ and ‘Pelé: Birth of a Legend’, respectively. He is a prominent voice on the soundtracks for various movies and TV shows, including ‘Beauty in the Broken’ (2015) and ‘Mira: Royal Detective’ (2021).

His own covers and collaborations have amassed over 15 million views on YouTube. Additionally, he has performed in the chorus for artists including Carlos Santana, Camila Cabello, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Billie Eilish.
