Xperience Sessions With Edward Maya

RJ Rohit caught up with Eduard Marian Ilie, better known as Edward Maya who is a Romanian DJ, musician, record producer, performer, vocalist, and composer. He is best known for his blockbuster hit track “Stereo Love” from 2009. He graduated from Bucharest’s George Enescu Music High School.

Maya collaborated with a number of other Romanian artists, including Akcent and Vika Jigulina, in and around 2006. He also contributed to the song Tornerò, which Mihai Trăistariu sang at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. This song “was the beginning of my career,” he said in an interview with Beat-Town.com.

Maya released his first song as an artist in the summer of 2009, “Stereo Love,” which reached No. 2 on the Romanian singles charts. Later that year, “Stereo Love” became a club hit all over the world. The song reached the top five singles charts in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and was followed by concerts all over the world. As of January 2021, “Stereo Love” had gotten over 455 million views on YouTube.

Maya released his second song, “This Is My Life,” on May 13, 2010. Maya has founded his own record label, Mayavin Records, to help maintain control over his career and provide opportunities for other musicians. On Christmas Eve, Maya released the song and video for his third single “Desert Rain” globally. On November 29, 2012, he released his fourth song, ‘Mono in Love,’ which featured Vika Jigulina. In the animated film Onward, Maya was chosen to voice Grug.                                                                                            

Edward Maya chose to only release songs that convey the underlying artistic passion of his heart while acting as an independent artist.
