Navya Biala

RJ Rohit caught up with 11 year old Indie artist, Navya Biala. 

Navya’s parents were aware of her innate talent for singing from an early age. Since she was six years old, she has actively performed in school. When the family purchased a small midi keyboard for the kids, she began playing the piano by herself and using garage band frequently during the lockdown.

Even though Navya is only 11 years old, this is her third track and her first that has been professionally produced. She gets thrills when she performs in front of an audience. Adele, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo have been cited as influences for her vocals and song-writing. She credits her extensive reading with giving her a large English vocabulary that allows her to express herself freely in her songs.

Navya has also formed a girl band at school called ‘Fire proof’ with the intention of performing and releasing music in the future. She recently released her track, ‘Cloudy Days’ which is about hope. Sometimes memories cloud our brain and weigh us down. If only we search for that rainbow in those darkest days. The rainbow can be a song, a friend or anything that emanates positivity. 

Navya first wrote a few lyrics of this song in April. When her father put it on a simple loop, the music started to take on a life of its own. They presented the rough file, along with three other songs to the producer who was interested in developing this song further, since they saw the potential of Navya’s vocal range and style. Navya recorded the lead vocal track as well as all of the voicing.
