RJ Rohit caught up with Indie artist Tsumyoki about his new remixed track, ‘Pink Blue,’ featuring Connor Price and more!
Tsumyoki is the dynamic musical force making waves in the vibrant Indian hip-hop scene. Born Nathan Joseph Mendes on June 2, 2001, Tsumyoki, also known as Yoki, has swiftly risen to prominence as a rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer.
At just 19, he etched his name in Goan music history by becoming the youngest artist signed to DIVINE’s Gully Gang Records in 2021.
Hailing from Goa, Tsumyoki is recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to English hip-hop in the coastal state. His journey began at the age of 17, fuelled by a desire to diversify musical genres. Despite initial financial constraints, Tsumyoki’s perseverance and talent caught the attention of the industry. Inspired by artists like XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD, and Drake, he navigated the challenges of the rap game, hustling outside clubs and relying on his mother’s support.
Tsumyoki’s breakout moment came with the release of ‘White Tee’ in 2019, setting the stage for a series of successes, including his album ‘Daboij’ and the EP ‘Way Too Messy.’ His stage name, influenced by Japanese aesthetics, reflects his journey of self-discovery and cultural fusion.
